Biography

Holly Rowe artist

Me and my Muse (Mews!)

Holly was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and later her family moved to a small town in central Wyoming.  With a chemist father, and a creative stay-at-home mom, her parents were an interesting blend, from the analytical and precise scientific mind of her father to the more emotional and expressive nature of her mother. Both parents were lovers of art and together they collected batiks, bronze sculptures, many paintings, pottery, prints and even a Native American Kachina doll that ruled over the dining room from the top of the credenza in their Wyoming home where she grew up.  Holly credits her love of art to growing up in this unique environment.

“My most memorable exposure to art occurred when I was child. A friend of my father came to our home and did a watercolor demonstration on our kitchen table. I was small and the only way I could see what he was doing was by standing on one of the kitchen chairs next to the artist, George Bevill. He quickly and, from my young perspective, rather magically painted a couple large watercolor paintings. It was a very exciting and memorable experience for me. I decided then, at age six, that one day I wanted to learn to do what he did.”

Plein Air Painting in Colorado

Holly paints in watercolors, acrylics, and gouache, but her preferred medium is oil.  After deciding on a subject and working out the details, she tends to work quickly (Alla Prima).  Her style is often loose, leaning towards an impressionistic interpretation.  Her interests vary from landscapes, city scenes, and wildlife, to people, and still life.

Holly resides in Castle Pines, Colorado.
